In conjunction with Bill Lawing’s “Music of Southern Appalachia” course, the Music Department of Davidson College offers the Traditional Music Series every year with a concert each month, January – April.

- January 28, 8:00 pm – Rafe & Clelia Stefanini. Rafe Stefanini has been at the forefront of the revival of traditional music from the rural south for over thirty years. His work on fiddle, banjo, guitar and song is represented in over 20 CDs, both as headliner and as guest. Daughter Clelia Stefanini has followed in his footsteps quickly becoming competent on fiddle, guitar and vocals. Together they present a varied and exciting program of fiddle duets, banjo tunes, songs and ballads. Their show will thrill you and move you at the same time!
- February 18, 7:30 pm – Jake Blount. Jake Blount is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, singer, and scholar based in Takoma Park, Maryland. Blount took up banjo and fiddle as a student at Hamilton College and became a full-time performer and scholar in 2017. His art and scholarship both focus primarily on the music of Black and indigenous communities in the southeastern United States. Blount’s music and research has been shared with the Smithsonian Institution, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and numerous other colleges, museums, and universities.
- March 17, 7:30 PM – The Cockman Family. The Cockman Family makes its second Davidson appearance and its first Traditional Series concert. Consisting of a father, many sons, one daughter, and several grandchildren, The Cockman Family is at the pinnacle of the Bluegrass-Gospel genre. Everybody in the family has received national awards for their musical skills. As soloists, each is exceptional. As a family, they are incomparable.
