The historic Appalachian Theatre, has entertained audiences in the heart of downtown Boone, North Carolina since 1938.

Once a gorgeous 999-seat Art Deco movie house, the building closed in 2007 and sat empty and gutted for years. On October 14, 2019, the Appalachian Theatre re-opened its doors after a $10 million renovation that brought the distinctive Art Deco details back to this historic theatre and created a new 629-seat, state-of-the-art, acoustically fabulous venue for live concerts, films, plays, and dance performances.  The spacious community room with historic murals provides Boone with the only downtown venue capable of hosting meetings and receptions for over 100 people.

Upcoming bands include:

Thursday, April 3, 2025 – Ashes & Arrows, 7:30 PM – 11:00 PM

Ashes & Arrows – a dynamic country/rock band born from the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, and alps of Arrowtown, New Zealand, is making waves with their captivating blend of strong harmonies, poignant lyrics, and infectious on-stage presence.

Friday, June 6, 2025 – Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives, 7:30 PM – 10:00 PM

Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives – Country Music Hall of Famer, five-time Grammy-winner, and AMA Lifetime Achievement honoree Marty Stuart picks up where he left off on Altitude, his first new album in five years, exploring a cosmic country landscape populated by dreamers and drifters, misfits and angels, honky-tonk heroes and lonesome lovers. There’s a desert flare to the music here, a sweeping, spacious feel that conjures up wide-open horizons and endless stretches of two-lane highway, and the production is raw and cinematic to match, tipping its cap both to Bakersfield and Laurel Canyon as it balances jangle and twang in equal measure. While it would be easy for an artist as accomplished as Stuart to rest on his laurels, Altitude instead showcases the work of a searcher with an insatiable appetite for growth and reflection, one whose ambition, much like his keen wit and rich imagination, only seems to grow with each and every release.

Friday, June 27, 2025 – Balsam Range, 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM

Celebrating its 18th year together, bluegrass juggernaut Balsam Range is charging headlong toward the unknown horizon of what is currently unfolding as the group enters a new, promising chapter of its vast, ever-evolving musical career. Coming into 2025, the group: Caleb Smith (guitar, vocals),Tim Surrett (bass, dobro, vocals) Alan Bibey (mandolin, vocals) and banjoist Marc Pruett—is gearing up to not only release new music, but also once again hit the road, touring majestic theaters and backwoods gatherings—all in the name of bluegrass music.

2025 also brings a special guest on board to many shows across the nation, Kentucky native Don Rigsby. On fiddle and vocals, Rigsby brings that familiar “high lonesome sound ”to the mix and is backed by an impressive resume, making him a seamless addition to the group.

Sunday, November 9, 2025 – The Wailin’ Jennys, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Starting as a happy accident of solo singer/songwriters getting together for a one-time-only performance at a tiny guitar shop in Winnipeg, Manitoba, The Wailin’ Jennys have grown over the years into one of today’s most beloved international folk acts. Founding members Moody and Mehta along with New York-based Masse continue to create some of the most exciting music on the folk-roots scene, stepping up their musical game with each critically lauded recording, and thrilling audiences with their renowned live performances.
