Hosted by old time musician Wayne Erbsen, Country Roots is devoted to bluegrass and old-time country music and is BPR’s longest running program. From archival recordings to up-n-coming youngin’s with a banjo and a fiddle, Wayne gets it kickin’ each week on Country Roots. Tune in at 88.1 FM, Asheville or streaming on line.
Wayne is a master of a number of styles of music including old-time, bluegrass, folk, traditional, cowboy, pioneer, railroad, gospel and music of the Civil War. As a solo performer, he plays clawhammer and bluegrass banjo, fiddle, mandolin and guitar. His repertoire of songs is over one thousand. A typical program would include songs, stories and humor mixed with hot instrumentals. Wayne can design a program perfectly suited to the occasion and the audience. If your festival, party, wedding or conference is looking for a larger group, Wayne often performs with additional musicians as a duet, trio, or four-piece bluegrass or old-time band. He can even bring along an entire clogging team.
