The Mountain Heritage Center at Western Carolina University is pleased to announce that one of our favorite summer partners, the Mountain Collegium Early Music and Folk Music Workshop, is back on campus with two free concerts at the Coulter Auditorium on the campus of WCU.
- Tuesday, June 28, 7:30 pm. Folk singer and storyteller LEE KNIGHT will present a program focusing on social interest songs by Appalachian women from the coal fields and cotton mills. Knight, a renowned performer of Appalachian music, grew up in the Adirondacks and has spent his life collecting folk music from his childhood home, as well as the Southern Appalachians, the Mississippi Delta, and coastal Georgia and South Carolina.
- Thursday, June 30, 8:00 pm. Mountain Collegium Faculty Members will perform medieval, renaissance, baroque and contemporary music on early and folk instruments. Workshop participants come from around the country to study with a faculty that includes recording artists, orchestra conductors, musicologists and professors.
