Skill Level: Beginning & Intermediate
This class presents fun and practical methods for writing original music and songs. Students will learn about basic musical structure, dynamics, and rhythms. While finding new freedom of expression, they will gain confidence and knowledge to continue composing in the future. Reading music is not a requirement. But students should have a basic understanding of tone, pitch, and pulse. For example, if they can sing a familiar song with reasonable pitch and tap their foot in time to music, that is all that is needed
*We require all individuals over the age of two to wear appropriate masks in the classroom while participating in a workshop or event.
Student supplies:
- A pad or notebook with pencil.
- An instrument if you play one at the intermediate level or above.
- A recording device or cellphone voice recorder would be very helpful.
About Instructor Dawn Davis:
Dawn Davis is a published composer and multi-instrumentalist. Her work has been contracted for documentaries such as “The Vaquero Series”; films by J&S Productions of Santa Barbara, CA. She has been active at the John C Campbell Folk School as a Contra Dance musician and as an Instructor for Tune and Song Writing; also performing on a regular basis for the Folk School’s Morningsong presentations.
