Tom Dula was hung for the murder of Laura Foster on May 1, 1868 in Ferguson at the Whippoorwill Academy. But…did he do it? He certainly gained international fame when the Kingston Trio sang Frank Proffitt's version of “Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley” and made it a hit. Number one for 13 weeks on the Billboard charts, the song forever highlighted the dangers of a love triangle.
